MENSTRUAL MANAGEMENT PRODUCTS

How can we make a practical difference?
We promote the use of two trusted products:

The Mpower Menstrual Cup is a safe, hygienic, cost effective and environmentally-friendly alternative to pads and tampons. It is made from high medical-grade silicone that does not contain bleach or toxic chemicals. The cup is inserted into the vagina, where it seals itself against the body to contain the menstrual flow. It can hold up to 3 times more liquid than a tampon. After the period it can be sterilized and used again. The Campaign price is R250, and the cup lasts for more than 5 years.

Palesa Pads Reusable Sanitary Pads are also cost-effective and environmentally friendly. You use the washable pad instead of a disposable pad, and after each use you wash and dry them, which allows them to be used over and over again. A pack consists of 6 pads including 1 mega, 2 maxi, 2 midi, and one pantyliner. The price of this set is R200 and the pads last for 5 years.
THE SOUTH AFRICAN SITUATION:
  • 4 million women in South Africa cannot afford sanitary towels.
  • 69% of school girls report vaginal infections due to using rags, paper, socks and other unsanitary items because they do not having access to sanitary products.
  • 40% of girls drop out of school by age 15 because they are absent 6 days of every month while on their period.
  • 73% of 11 year olds have no idea what the menstrual cycle is. Because no one has told them they think it is something bad and shameful.
  • 86% of girls between 11 and 15 years do not understand that the menstrual cycle is a sign of fertility and that they could become pregnant.
  • Only 3 out of 500 girls would consider talking to their teacher about their menstrual cycle.
