PRIVACY NOTICE

At The Dignity Campaign, we are committed to respecting and protecting the privacy rights of our clients, facilitators, stakeholders, partners, and donors in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA" or "the Act"). This Privacy Notice outlines our policy regarding the collection, use, and protection of your personal information as a 'data subject' under the Act. It explains the purposes for which we collect your information, how we store and use it, and your rights in relation to your personal data.

This statement is issued on behalf of The Dignity Campaign and, where applicable, its area teams.

1. What Personal Information Do We Collect and How Do We Collect It?

We collect personal information from you when we first engage with you and during the course of our interactions. As a result, you are considered a 'data subject' under the Act. Typically, we collect information directly from you, either voluntarily or through an authorised representative. In some cases, we may also collect personal information from our associates, public sources, or other lawful means, provided that the collection is done in accordance with the Act.

We collect personal information manually or electronically through various channels, including phone calls, emails, online platforms, and in person. The types of personal information we collect may include, but are not limited to, your name, contact details, identification information, financial information, and other relevant data.

We make every effort to limit the amount of personal information collected to what is necessary for the purposes for which it is collected. We do not routinely collect 'special personal information' as defined in the Act, except when explicit consent is obtained, or when required by law.

2. Why Do We Collect Your Information?

We collect your personal information to provide services or products to you, or for other lawful purposes as permitted by the Act. The information you provide will be used exclusively for the intended purpose, and we will not use your personal data for any other purpose without your consent or unless required by law.

3. How Do We Protect Your Information?

We are committed to safeguarding your personal information and have implemented appropriate security measures to protect it against loss, theft, or unauthorised access. In the event that we engage third parties to manage our data storage systems, we ensure that they adhere to the same privacy and security standards and provide written assurances to maintain the confidentiality of your personal data.

4. How Long Do We Retain Your Information?

We will retain your personal information only for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. We will periodically review the need to retain specific data, and you may contact us at any time to request that your personal information be deleted or corrected, subject to our retention obligations.

5. Your Rights Under POPIA

Under the Act, you have certain rights in relation to your personal information:

  • Right to Object: You may object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances (Section 11(3) of the Act).

  • Right to Access: You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you (Section 24 of the Act).

  • Right to Rectify: You may request that any incorrect or incomplete personal information be corrected.

  • Right to Deletion: In certain circumstances, you may request the destruction or deletion of your personal information.

We have appointed an Information Officer to ensure that we comply with the provisions of POPIA and to facilitate communication with you, our clients, partners, and the Information Regulator. You may contact our Information Officer via the email address below for any requests or inquiries related to your personal information.

6. Changes to This Privacy Notice

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Notice. Any updates will be posted on our website or communicated to you directly. These updates will not affect any agreements or contracts we have with you.
