Recently, we had the privilege of hosting another Dream and Dare Day at Constantia Primary School.
Over the past few months, we have been working closely with the Live 2:6 interns, equipping them not only to run our programs, but also to grow in confidence as leaders. Part of their training has focused on public speaking, facilitating conversations, and learning how to engage with teenagers in a way that is both relatable and impactful.
Dream and Dare Day at Constantia Primary gave the interns an opportunity to put all of this into practice, and they did an incredible job.
Last year, we ran our programs at the school and saw a noticeable difference in the learners’ behaviour, confidence, and classroom engagement afterwards. Teachers observed positive changes among the students and several approached us afterwards, sharing how much they wanted more learners to experience the program. That encouragement made returning to the school even more special.
This year, around 40 girls and 40 boys from Grade 6 participated in the day. Through interactive sessions, discussions, games, music, and activities, the teenagers explored important topics such as identity, belonging, and purpose.
Dream Day for the girls
There was plenty of excitement throughout the day, from energetic dances and singing to
thoughtful conversations and moments of reflection.
One of the highlights was seeing how engaged the learners were during the sessions. Many asked honest and important questions in the puberty topic, showing just how valuable these conversations are at this stage of their lives.
Some of the feedback from the teenagers included:
“It was fun and we learned new things. I liked that there was only girls.”
“My favourite topic was the menstrual cycle because when I get my period I will know what to do.”
“My favourite topic was identity because it made me feel like I am important.”
“The program helped me to believe in myself and my body and puberty.”
“I liked purpose because it says to become the person that you were created to be.”
Dare Day for the boys
Our Dare Day with the Grade 6 boys at Constantia Primary School was filled with energy, excitement. Many of the boys arrived already excited for the day after hearing from older learners about their experiences with the program last year. It was encouraging to see how the impact of previous sessions had continued to spread through the school community.
Throughout the day, the boys engaged enthusiastically in sessions covering topics such as identity, relationships, manhood, and how to talk about sex in a healthy and respectful way.
Alongside the teaching sessions, the boys especially enjoyed the interactive games and activities, which helped make the learning both memorable and fun.
Some of the feedback from the teenagers included:
“I liked sex, it helped me learn about the right things.”
“Manhood was my favourite topic because it tells us about the future and how we must make it better.”
“I liked the game Finding the Teen.”
“I learned about how porn is fake and it can harm your mind.”
