This past Saturday, our partners Advance Edukos Foundation had the privilege of hosting a Dream and Dare Day in Mitchells Plain, creating meaningful spaces for young people to explore important topics around self-awareness, hygiene, and identity.
For the Girls: Learning, Sharing, and Growing
The girls’ session welcomed 11 girls aged 11 to 15. While the group was smaller than usual, this intimacy allowed for deeper, more personal conversations. The girls engaged enthusiastically and openly, asking questions about topics that many admitted they had never discussed before.
A significant focus was on hygiene and the myths and facts surrounding menstruation, areas where many young girls often feel unsure or misinformed. The atmosphere was supportive and safe, enabling honest discussions that we believe left a lasting impact.
By the end of the session, it was clear that the girls felt heard, empowered, and more confident in understanding their bodies and themselves.
For the Boys: Exploring Identity and Purpose
Simultaneously, the Dare Dare session for boys brought together 25 boys aged 11 to 16. Facilitated by two of our facilitators and one assistant, the session focused on Identity, Belonging, and Purpose.
The boys were attentive, engaged, and participated fully in the discussions. Feedback forms revealed that the topics not only challenged some of their existing beliefs but also introduced new ways of thinking. Many of these young participants showed potential to continue exploring the other Dare programs, making this just the beginning of their journey of self-discovery.
We are grateful to all the participants and facilitators who made the day so special. The questions asked, the stories shared, and the insights gained remind us why Dream and Dare Days are so vital, fostering growth, understanding, and confidence in the next generation.
