Eastern Cape Dare Champion Camp: Growing in Faith, Respect and Teamwork

What does it mean to be a champion? At the Eastern Cape Dare Champion Camp, the boys discovered that being a champion is about more than winning a game. It’s about growing in faith, learning to respect one another and discovering what makes each of us unique.

The camp brought the boys together for a fun-filled experience of outdoor activities, games, teamwork and opportunities to grow in their relationship with God. Along the way, they explored what it means to connect with God, build positive relationships and recognise their own worth.

Connecting with God

One of the biggest lessons the boys took away was discovering new ways to engage with God. From prayer and worship to exploring the Bible, they learned that connecting with God doesn’t have to be complicated.

As one boy shared, “I learnt that prayer is having a conversation with God.”

Others spoke about learning new Bible verses and discovering different ways to worship and connect with Him. These simple but meaningful lessons gave the boys fresh ways to build their faith and make their relationship with God part of everyday life.

Respect, teamwork and belonging

Respect was another key theme throughout the camp. The boys recognised the importance of treating one another well, communicating openly and working together.

One participant reflected that he had learned “to respect one another and to communicate with each other.” Others highlighted teamwork and being friendly as lessons they wanted to take home.

Through shared activities and games, the boys had opportunities to put these lessons into practice, building connections and experiencing the value of working together.

Celebrating what makes us unique

The camp also encouraged the boys to reflect on their identity and the truth that each of them has value and purpose.

One boy summed up this lesson perfectly: “I learnt that I am unique, there is only one of me.”

These reminders are at the heart of the Dare Program: helping boys understand who they are, recognise their God-given worth and grow into young men who treat themselves and others with dignity.

A camp to remember

When asked how they would describe the experience to a friend, the boys called it fun, exciting, positive and amazing. They spoke about the games, outdoor activities, lessons and the opportunity to grow closer to God.

One participant described it as “a fun and exciting camp that helps with teamwork and your relationship with God.”

Another put it simply: “It was the best camp, and you learned about God every day.”

The Eastern Cape Dare Champion Camp was a chance for the boys to step away from their usual routines, build friendships and grow in confidence, faith and character.

At The Dignity Campaign, we believe every boy deserves the opportunity to discover his identity, understand his worth and develop the life skills he needs to thrive. Through experiences like Dare Champion Camp, we hope to equip the next generation of young men to live with purpose, lead with integrity and treat others with respect.

Because being a champion isn’t just about how you play the game. It’s about who you are becoming.
