Western Cape Dare Champion Camp 2026
What does it look like when a group of teenage boys are given a weekend to step away, have fun, ask big questions and discover more about who they are?
For the boys at our Western Cape Dare Champion Camp, it looked like games, vision boards, worship, laughter, deep conversations, new friendships and a whole lot of food!
But underneath all the fun was something deeper.
The boys were challenged to engage with God, themselves and the world around them.
And they didn't just hear about it. They experienced it.
🙌 Engaging with God
For many of the boys, the opportunity to grow in their relationship with God was a highlight of the weekend.
Through worship, singing, prayer and journaling, they explored what it means to actually engage with God in everyday life.
One boy said he loved the session because “we can talk to God.” Another shared that he learnt that “when you are alone, don't think you are alone at all.”
For some, the weekend was a turning point.
One participant shared that he gave his heart to God, while another said the camp helped him understand that God is always with him.
“You always have someone by your side.”
🧠 Getting to Know Yourself
Being a young man starts with knowing who you are.
The boys were given space to think about their identity, their strengths, their dreams and the kind of person they want to become.
The vision board was a big hit giving them a chance to get creative while thinking about their future.
One boy loved being able to show his dream job. Another said the activity helped him plan what he wants to achieve.
And one simple response summed it up:
“It helped me know who I am.”
🌍 Looking Beyond Yourself
The boys also explored what it means to engage with the world around them — to think about others, build healthy relationships and consider how they want to show up in the world.
One participant said engaging with the world helped him “learn and understand more about my world and how to treat others.”
And along the way, friendships grew.
For some, meeting new people and spending time with other boys on the same journey became a highlight of the camp.
🔥 Redeemed by Fire
Then came Redeemed by Fire.
This powerful activity invited the boys to think about the things they struggle with that is preventing them from being the person God created them to be.
For many, it became one of the moments they would never forget.
One boy described it as an opportunity for “change/redemption.”
Another said it helped him find peace.
And one participant reflected:
“If I want to grow stronger in faith and with God I have to let go of the past, find my true self, engage with others and learn about God.”
That's what Dare Champion Camp is about.
Not pretending that everything is perfect.
But recognising that change is possible.
🏃♂️ Faith + Fun
Of course, you can't have a Champion Camp without some serious competition!
The weekend was packed with champion games, races, challenges, creativity, singing, laughter and plenty of opportunities to just have fun together.
One boy remembered a running game where they had to race towards the centre. But for him, it became something more:
“It meant running towards God until you get to Him.”
Others remembered the bean bag race, the games, the food, the fire and the vision boards.
When asked how they would describe Champion Camp to a friend, the boys called it:
“Amazing.”“The best camp ever.”“A place of change and dignity.”“A life-changing experience.”
And perhaps one boy captured the heart of the weekend best:
“It makes it so much easier to connect with God… it helps you realise who we were meant to be through the eyes of God.”
👊 Becoming Champions
Dare Champion Camp isn't simply a weekend away.
It's a space for boys to pause, discover, grow and dream.
A space where they can ask questions about faith, identity, relationships and their future.
A space where they can discover that they don't have to walk the journey alone.
And a space where they can begin to see themselves and their future through the eyes of God.
This is what it means to Dare To Be Different.
